How to fix most problems
Before you dig into anything specific, try these two. Between them they sort out roughly four in five of the problems people write to us about, and each takes under a minute.
1. Quit and reopen your video app
Zoom, Teams, Meet, Discord and the rest read their camera list once, when they start. If your video app was open while you installed or started FaceReady, it never saw the FaceReady camera. Quit it completely — not just close the window — then open it again and pick FaceReady as the camera.
On a Mac, closing the window doesn't quit the app. Press ⌘Q, or right-click the Dock icon and choose Quit. On Windows, close it from the system tray too if it's still hiding there.
2. On Mac, check the FaceReady camera is switched on
macOS won't let any app add a camera without you flipping a switch once. If you skipped that step, FaceReady won't appear anywhere. Open System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions, find FaceReady, and make sure it's on. Full walk-through in where's the camera extension.
On Windows there's no switch to find — the installer registers the camera for you. If it's missing there, the fix is usually just making sure FaceReady is installed and running.
3. Just installed or updated on a Mac? Restart it
macOS only registers a camera extension fully after a restart, and a FaceReady update can leave the new camera hidden until a reboot clears the old version. If FaceReady is switched on but still isn't in your video app's list — especially right after an update — restart your Mac, then reopen the video app.
