Windows: there is a problem with this installer package
This message nearly always means the installer file itself didn't arrive in one piece, so Windows can't read it properly. The good news is it's quick to fix. Start at the top — the first step clears it most of the time.
1. Re-download the installer
A download that stalls or drops partway leaves you with a corrupted file, and that's the most common cause of this error. Delete the installer you have, then download a fresh copy from faceready.ai and let it finish completely before you open it.
2. Run it again, then as administrator
Sometimes a second run just works. If it doesn't, right-click the installer and choose "Run as administrator" — that gives it the permissions it needs to register the FaceReady camera for the whole system.
On first run you may also see SmartScreen say "Windows protected your PC". That's not this error — click More info → Run anyway. The installer is signed by Trucode Ltd.
3. Make sure the Windows Installer service is running
Windows uses a background service to handle installs, and if it's stopped you'll get this error. Press ⊞+R, type services.msc and press Enter. Find Windows Installer in the list, right-click it and choose Start (or Restart if it's already running), then try the FaceReady installer again.
4. Clear the temp folder
Installers stage files in your temp folder, and a leftover from a half-finished install can trip the next one up. Press ⊞+R, type %temp% and press Enter, then delete everything in the folder that opens (Windows skips anything in use). Run the installer once more.
