Help Install & setup Windows

Windows: another installation is in progress

If FaceReady's installer says "another installation is already in progress", it's not a FaceReady fault — Windows itself only lets one installer run at a time. Something else is mid-install, and Windows is making FaceReady wait its turn. Here's how to clear it.

The quick fixes, in order

  1. Wait a minute. A Windows update or another app might be installing in the background. Give it a moment to finish, then run the FaceReady installer again.
  2. Check the system tray. Look in the notification area at the bottom-right of the screen for an installer or update that's still running, and let it finish.
  3. Close any other installers you've got open — including a second copy of the FaceReady installer if you double-clicked it twice.
  4. Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and look for msiexec in the list. That's the Windows Installer doing its job. If it's busy, wait for it to disappear before trying again.

Stuck installer that won't clear? Restart the PC. A reboot ends any installer that's hung, and once Windows is back, FaceReady's installer runs cleanly.

Then run FaceReady's installer again

With nothing else installing, double-click the FaceReady installer and it'll go straight through. If Windows shows a "Windows protected your PC" message on first run, that's SmartScreen — click More info → Run anyway.
