A real beauty filter for Zoom, Teams and Google Meet

Most people looking for a beauty filter for Zoom assume Zoom has a good one buried in a menu somewhere. It doesn't. There's a single slider that smooths your skin a little, and that's the whole feature. Move over to Microsoft Teams and Google Meet and it gets worse — there's no real beauty filter at all. So you end up hunting for a setting that was never built.

We'll be straight about what each app can do, because the honest answer changes how you fix it. If you want one filter that works the same in Zoom, in a Microsoft Teams standup and on Google Meet, you can't get there inside any one of those apps. You get there with a virtual camera that does the work before the app ever sees your video. That's the whole idea behind FaceReady.

What Zoom actually gives you

Zoom's beauty feature is called Touch Up My Appearance. You'll find it under Settings → Video, and it's a single slider that softens skin texture. That's it. No lighting fix, no help with tired eyes, no way to even out colour. Push it too far and your face goes waxy; leave it low and you can barely tell it's on.

What Teams and Meet give you (almost nothing)

Microsoft Teams has background blur and custom backgrounds, and that's where its video controls stop. There's no skin smoothing, no brightness adjustment for your face, no "beauty" toggle of any kind. A Teams beauty filter, in the sense most people mean, simply isn't in the app.

Google Meet is the same story. You get backgrounds and a few playful effects, plus a "low-light" mode on some devices — but that brightens the whole frame, it won't soften a line or lift tired eyes. So across the three apps everyone uses for work, you've got one weak slider in Zoom and nothing meaningful in the other two.

Why a virtual camera fixes all three at once

A virtual camera sits between your real webcam and whatever app you're in. It grabs the picture from your camera, makes its adjustments, then hands the finished image to the app as if it were just another camera you could pick. Zoom, Teams and Meet don't know anything clever is happening — they see "a camera," you choose it from the list, and you're done.

Because the work happens before the app gets the video, the same look carries everywhere — a Zoom client review, a Teams retro, a Google Meet catch-up. 1. Install FaceReady on your Mac or PC and set how much lift you want — start subtle, you can always nudge it.
2. Open Zoom, Teams or Meet and go to the video settings.
3. Where it asks which camera to use, choose FaceReady instead of your built-in webcam.
